Alex Atala is known throughout the world for exploring and creating new gastronomic dishes using native Brazilian ingredients at his restaurant D.O.M. in São Paulo, Brazil. D.O.M. was recently ranked number 9 in The World’s 50 Best Restaurants awards.
At the age of 19, Alex began his career at the École Hôtelière de Namur in Belgium. He moved on to Jean Pierre Bruneau’s three Michelin starred restaurant in France where he worked and staged at Hotel de la Cote D’Or with Chef Bernard Loiseau. As his career progressed, he later forged on to new culinary ventures in Montpellier, France and Milan, Italy.
Returning in 1994 to São Paulo, Atala worked in several restaurants around the city, attracting the attention of food journalists and gourmands alike. By the end of 1999 he opened his own fine dining restaurant D.O.M. to huge critical acclaim.
